Let Me Bring Light: A Journey of Renewal and Return

on June 13, 2021 at Downtown Presbyterian Church

First Inversion returns with its first concert since January, 2020. The concert will be presented to a fully-vaccinated audience as well as live-streamed for those at home. In addition, we will have an available recording for purchase. We hope to bring light into everyone's experience as we collectively emerge into a new way of being together.

The program features the Rochester premiere of Will Todd’s “Songs of Renewal” (2018). Woven around and between the three movements of Todd’s work are freshly juxtaposed selections from motets of J.S. Bach and Johannes Brahms, two American Negro Spirituals, two improvisations, a gigue by Melissa Dunphy, and a well-known tune by Dolly Parton. The arc of the program suggests the difficult transformation and hope for renewal that our world has experienced over the last year. It affirms our commitment to bring light into every experience and interaction as we collectively emerge into a new way of being together.

Supported in part by grants from the Greater Rochester Choral Consortium and the Genesee Valley Council on the Arts (helping to support our Choral Scholar program).

“This project is made possible with funds from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and administered by the Genesee Valley Council on the Arts.
