On Friday, November 14 at 7:30 the members of Musica Spei invite you to join them in the glorious acoustic environment of St. Anne Church for the Rochester Early Music Festival Gala Concert. Presented in "prism" format, singers and instrumentalists surround the audience with music, flowing freely and without interruption from one performance to another. You will experience a broad sampling of the breadth and depth of early music during the performance. Participants include the Eastman Collegium Orchestra and the Collegium Lute Consort performing works by Johann Friedrich Fasch and others. The recently formed "Three Ladies of Ferrara" will beguile with duets and trios written by female composers of the Rennaisance and Baroque periods. You'll hear selections by ensembles of sackbuts, natural horns and baroque trumpets, including a grand work combining all of these instruments along with baroque kettle drums. Of course, host Musica Spei will appear with pieces by Jose Mauricio Nunes Garcia and his teacher Don Hernando Franco, noted composers of the Mexican and Guatemalan baroque period, as well as several selections by European composers. Host Brenda Tremblay (WXXI Classical) will provide brief introductions to the music. If you love early music and its many talented proponents based here in Rochester and the Finger Lakes region, you won't want to miss this annual event, now in its 24th year.
